How to keep your home free of rodents
The charmers are everywhere. They love to invade the houses! They will take advantage of any place where they can find food, water, heat and shelter. Keep rodents away from your home by following the following tips.
How to prevent rats at home
Clean the mezzanine
If you have rodents at home, and this one is between the ground, you will see that the insulating material of the mezzanine is worn out (they like to nest in it) and you will find excrement around it. When cleaning the area, remember to use some kind of high quality respiratory protection, since rodents can transmit serious diseases.
Check the exterior of the house thoroughly
Seal any holes between the house and the ground to prevent rodents from accessing your home from there. If you find a hole between the ceiling and the wall, you must also seal it. This is important since rats can be accessed from the lower part of the house, or from higher areas.
- Check the attic or storage room to see if there is any activity
- Verify that any input focus is closed; set some traps and readjust them frequently until there is no activity.
- Cut the tree branches
- If you live in an area with many trees, cut those branches that are close to your home since mice can climb trees and access your home from there.
- If it is a small pest, place traps
Place many traps with some kind of food, but don’t adjust them too much. The idea is that it seems safe for rodents to take food from the small wooden platform. If the next time you check the traps they have no bait, put more food and adjust them again.
Do not seal any holes until you have removed the pest
If you have a large plague and there are holes in the walls, do not seal those holes. What you get with this is that they die inside the house by not leaving any of the exit points open. Once you have removed all rodents seal any hole to avoid a new pest.
Clean the garage or basement
Rats think that tackle is a lovely place to live. If your garage or basement is invaded by junk like mattresses, sofas, cabinets, it is best that you get rid of them, as it can be a good home for these small rodents.
Replace insulating material
When you have removed the last rodent from your house, replace the insulating material, and check the house again to detect any access point for possible new rodents.
Make sure your garage door has no problems
If you have a garage in your home, thoroughly check the door and its surroundings. Moisture seals are used to close the gap between the garage door and the frame. They are made of flexible rubber, a material that can be easily gnawed. The only thing rodents have to do is chew the bottom corners of it to have access to your home. Solve this problem by placing a flexible metal strip over the edges of the seal against moisture.
