Security First
After making the decision to clean your attic, you must prepare. Before starting your cleaning adventure, put on a mask with a classification to filter the particles in the air. Use gloves to protect your hands from protruding nails or loose insulation while cleaning. Bring additional lighting if your space is dark; keep your hands free with a headlight or a clamping light that you can attach to the attic beams.
Remove your belongings
Before you start cleaning, take out all the boxes, furniture and any other items in your attic space. If the items are too large or difficult to move from the attic, you can stack them in a corner and cover them while cleaning the rest of the room. Be sure to wash all fabrics that were in the area well to remove dust or other allergens.
Removes dust
Dust accumulates easily and quickly in your attic. Use a synthetic duster that is electrostatically charged to remove dust and dirt on all surfaces. Reach all the walls, wooden beams, columns, baseboards, windows and frames. If the duster gets too dirty, clean it as necessary. Do not forget to dust the fans or accessories in the attic space; Consider buying a duster with an extension arm to reach hard-to-reach areas and corners.
Sweep and vacuum
You may find that a vacuum is your best option if there is a lot of dust; A broom can simply push dirt and dust into the air while cleaning your attic. It is better to use a vacuum cleaner with a high efficiency filter (HEPA) or a combination of filter and cartridge to trap all dust particles. Inspect insulation
An often overlooked part of attic cleaning is insulation inspection. The insulation should be at the same level as the floor beams in your attic: if the insulation is below that level, you must add more. If you can’t see the floor beams, the insulation is likely to be above them and you don’t need to add more. Look along the attic eaves to make sure the insulation is evenly distributed.
